About RINKFORM
An independent magazine covering the whole world of skating — without the silos.
The Scandinavian Quarterly is a Nordic magazine of literature, arts and ideas.
Published from Scandinavia, TSQ brings together fiction, poetry, essays, criticism, translation, interviews and writing on culture from across the Nordic world.
Our centre is the North: its writers, languages, literary traditions, artists and ideas. We publish work from Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Iceland and the wider Nordic region, including the Faroe Islands, Greenland, Åland and Sápmi, alongside a smaller selection of international work.
We are interested in what happens within these literary cultures, between them, and when they meet the world beyond.
From the North, across borders
The name The Scandinavian Quarterly tells you where we begin.
TSQ is rooted in Scandinavia while looking across the wider Nordic region. We are interested in its differences as much as its similarities: between countries, languages, traditions and generations, and between the many ways of belonging to or writing from the North.
Nordic work does not need to be about the Nordic region to belong here. A Norwegian story need not contain mountains. A Swedish poem need not concern itself with Sweden. We are interested in the literature being made here, not in asking writers to perform a particular idea of 'Nordicness'.
Translation is central to that project. So is conversation across borders: between Swedish and Finnish, Danish and Icelandic, Sámi and English, the Nordic countries and the wider literary world.
International writing has a place in TSQ too, but selectively. We publish a small number of works from beyond the Nordic region, particularly when they bring something distinctive into conversation with the literature, culture and ideas around which the magazine is built.
What we publish
TSQ publishes fiction, poetry, essays and criticism, translation, interviews, and writing on literature, art and culture.
We publish both established and emerging voices. Work may be written originally in English or brought into English through translation, and we are particularly interested in making writing that might otherwise remain within one language available to readers across borders.
Our quarterly print issues sit at the centre of the magazine, bringing together Nordic writing, translation, criticism, art and a deliberately limited selection of work from elsewhere.
TSQ also publishes throughout the year online. Alongside new literature, readers will find criticism, interviews, translations, literary rediscoveries and regular editorial features including Poem of the Week, Story of the Week and Essay of the Week.
We are drawn to work with a distinct voice, intellectual curiosity and an awareness of the world beyond itself. We do not believe seriousness requires obscurity, or that accessibility requires simplicity of thought.
In print and online
The Scandinavian Quarterly is built as a magazine to be read in both forms.
Our print editions gather work into a lasting object: something designed to be kept, returned to and placed on a shelf. Online, TSQ allows the conversation to continue between issues through new writing, criticism, translation, interviews and cultural coverage.
Our debut issue will appear in Spring 2027.
An independent magazine
The Scandinavian Quarterly is independently published by Wove.
Independence gives us room to build the magazine deliberately, to follow interesting work rather than trends, and to develop an editorial identity rooted in the literary cultures of the North while remaining curious about the world beyond them.
We are at the beginning of that work.
Literature, across borders.
